ATTESTATION EXPLAINED

Understanding attestation chains in the UAE

Attestation is a multi-step process that verifies a document's authenticity across jurisdictions. Foreign documents intended for UAE use typically require: (1) notarisation by a licensed notary in the country of origin, (2) authentication by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or equivalent) of the issuing country, (3) authentication by the UAE Embassy or Consulate in that country, and (4) final stamp by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

Some countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention (1961) allow a simplified process using an Apostille instead of the full embassy chain. We will confirm the applicable route for your document and country of origin before work begins.

FAQ

Common questions about additional services

Documents issued by UAE authorities (birth certificates, marriage certificates issued in UAE, UAE court orders) generally require MOFA attestation when they are to be used abroad. For use within the UAE, MOFA attestation may not always be needed — this depends on the receiving authority. We will advise based on your specific situation.
The timeline depends on the country of origin and the efficiency of each authority in the chain. Typical ranges are: 10–20 working days for GCC and most European countries, 20–45 working days for South Asian and African countries, and up to 60 working days for some others. We track progress at each stage and keep you updated.
Our translations are prepared by translators accredited by the UAE Ministry of Justice, which is the standard accepted by the GDRFA, ICA, DED, courts, and most embassies. If a specific authority requires a notarised translation, we will include that step in the service.
We facilitate introductions for medical/health insurance (mandatory for UAE visa holders), commercial general liability, professional indemnity (errors and omissions), property and contents, and group life insurance. Visask acts as an introducer only — all policies are placed directly with UAE Insurance Authority-regulated carriers.
